Hello everyone,

yesterday was the first real day of fieldwork, although the weather has been a bit poor lately. It rains hard from time to time, making work difficult or making us have to redo things,
I'm having a good time here; the first few days I was a bit concerned about the food. We ate with the Cuban workers from the construcion site(who are building the airport)but they only eat chicken and rice with no vegetables. I cannot have sugar, but in this weather I need something to keep my sugarlevel in check,Yesterday we had some kind of canned meat that I think even cats would refuse:). I ate everything, but I am glad from today one we have some cooks in the house, They made us salted fish, rice and salad today<3. the work is hard, because the ground is rockhard. we start around 5.30/6 am and go back to house around 11 am, to have lunch. Then we start work again arund 3.30 pm. We have already found a few spectacular finds. Yesterday Corinne found a 16th century European glass bead just by fieldwalking.Literally a needle in a haysack We have been sifting a couple of heaps of sand/dirt, because we couldn't prepare the surface since it has been raining so hard. I found a couple of pottery sherds, and found another one today.Yesterday in the afternoon we could scrape some of the surface, which we continued this morning. We do that do you can make out the features, such as postholes. Today we found a winged stone axe just close under the surface! They are typically Vincentian but have not been found in situ before. Now we have. Not a bad start! I wonder what else we will find! Eventhough the work is hard, I am having a good time. I have to look for a solution to put more pictures up, because on this site I need to pay to put more on there then I have now. Internet isn't working all the time, I will try to keep you posted..

Btw, yesterday we went into town to look at a lecture by a Canadian archaeologist at the National Trust(richard scott..?forgot his name now). It was interesting,. The Taxidriver driving us and who apparantly was with his girlfriend was paying 80% of his attention to her, and 20% on the road, meanwhile blasting really crappy R&B out of the carradio:) driving a little too fast on the narrow &steep roads:) We had a lot of laughs on his behalf:) Also encountered a car that was running on oil, in the process leaving a blue cloud of blinding exhaust:)
Yeah, the carribean lifestyle:)...

BTW, it is much warmer here then this site sayd. More like 30-35 degrees.
