I am building an oven outside. Now the hardest part is making a model of the bead that needs to be reconstructed, or rather figuring out how they may have. It sounds deceivingly simple, but it's not.
Ironicly, if I succeed, the bead may be hidden under a hood anyway.
Yesterday I did my first silvercasting but it took a long time for it to heat up enough, and ultimately didn’t fill the form completey. I also had to fire it up with the electric fan+ the big bellow and it was liquid enough to cast. (but it seemed to have lost quite a bit of silver in the process).
As I would rather have an authentic reconstruction, I called for a crisis meeting with Matthias. We were either going to fix or make bellows. I'm glad we got the other one in good working order because I already have little time.
I need to now make the moulds (a nice mixture of clay, horsedung and horsehair-)…the horseproducts will provide for natural aircanals when the mould is fired(before casting, to let the wax out) and this will create the vaccumeffect that gives a better chances of a succesful cast.
With any luck I will cast in a (small ) week.
I have to look up more references. The hardest part have been to try to figure out how this bead was made. It seems simple but’s it not, moreover, it is fairly tiny 1,2/1,3 cm big. This week will be majorly hectic.
