Bored ministers of culture

Yesterday we had a 'workshop' Cultural Heritage Management in Kingstown in a posh building with a couple of ministers and other important people from St. Vincent.
The discussion was how to get Vincentians more interested in culture (or archaoelogy)and what would be good for St, Vincent. It was very striking that at least 3 of the 4 ministers of Culture looked rather bored troughout the whole thing(one was texting!) and just seemed to have wanted to get it over with, one of them seemed genuinly interested, Most of the speakers were unprepared, including our professor who didn't know she was to give a presentation but she did well.
To summarize the whole thing, they do not seem to understand that cultural heritage& tourism can go hand in hand, that one can be a katalyst for the other. They even did not really want to listen to the girl that as representing the board of tourism, who actually preperared her presentation well and had some good ideas. I also made some suggestions (like think of a common logo/symbol to indicate special things to see-on a map or a sign, something everyone will recognise. And information about the site we are digging now in the airport-to-be, with a reference to the National Trust.
After this we had a half hour to do some groceries--I bought some pencils-to make a nice book of drawingf=s for the security guard. I talked to him about this cool totemic like stick he is carrying around. According to him it does not have any special meaning, but at the same time he has all this kind of shamanistic interpretations or behaviorisms(going into meditation to look for a right tree for example--for his spirit to leave his body-he says) and supposedly this stick also warns him when he gets in dangerous places by getting heavy.
He is going to make a stick for me.(and I will have to decorate it myself a little...

Whaaaw, just found out your site is up, working and filled!! (I first had errors when going to the link). I just read all your blogs and really enjoyed it :D It seems like a wonderful and interesting experience.
